Comments: Occurs off Argentina, on the continental shelf and slope from Buenos Aires to the Straits of Magellan (Ref. 1371, 27363). Collected by the fishing vessel 'Othori' from SE Isla de los Estados in February 1995, with the use of a mid-water trawl at 700 m depth (Ref. 41244). Also Ref. 8984.

Description synthétique

Épines dorsales (Total): 1; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 100-113; Épines anales 0; Rayons mous anaux: 83 - 90. Dorsal part of body purplish blue, belly silvery with a slight bluish tinge; small melanophores scattered on fin membrane of dorsal and anal fins; inside of mouth blackish (Ref. 1371).

Biologie     Glossaire (ex. epibenthic)

Schooling species which are concentrated on the outer part of the continental shelf (Ref. 1371). Feeds mainly on fish (herring, anchovies, lantern fishes), also on mysids, cephalopods, euphausiids and amphipods (Ref. 1371). Migrates southward in spring and summer and northward in winter (Ref. 1371). Utilized fresh, frozen and for fishmeal (Ref. 1371).
