पृष्ठीय रीढ़ (सम्पूर्ण): 10; पृष्ठीय सौफट रेज़ (सम्पूर्ण): 10-11; गुदा कांटा 3; ऐनल सौफट रेज़: 8. Maxilla extending to below middle of eye; interorbital space flattened. Dorsal and anal fins without scales. Generally blue-gray or mauve to overall reddish; fins yellowish to reddish except pelvic and anal fins which are sometimes whitish; margin of maxilla black.

Adults inhabit reefs and rocky bottom areas to depths of at least 100 m (Ref. 4887). Pelagic and benthopelagic (Ref. 58302). Feed on fishes, squids and crustaceans (Ref. 4887). Marketed fresh (Ref. 37816).
