Remark: | Reason of the research: Labe (Elbe) river in Nymburk city is "full" of brown bullhead. Than it would be good to reduce their number by fishing. But we did not trust a quality of water in the river. That is why I ordered subject research in South Czech University - Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology at Vodňany. According to the Institute it would be money wasting activity to make all contaminants research, it is enough to make research for mercury content. Mercury is dangerous contaminant and it is all over Czech Republic. Moreover brown bullhead (in Czech sumeček americký - american little bullhead) takes benthos and from my point of view it increases probability of contamination. On 12th of August last year we provided fishing for that species (earthworm on bottom). We cought 17 pieces and second day I took 8 biggest ones to the Institute. In the Institute they chose 5 biggest of the 8 delivered. Results were as follows: Sample number one: Length 245 mm, body length 215 mm, weight 235 g, mercury volume 0,274 ppm Sample number two: Length 255 mm, body length 220 mm, weight 205 g, mercury volume 0,516 ppm Sample three : Length 240 mm, body length 200 mm, weight 205 g, mercury volume 0,266 ppm Sample number four: Length 235 mm, body length 200 mm, weight 180 g, mercury volume 0,295 ppm Sample number five: Length 235 mm, body length 200 mm, weight 175 g, mercury volume 0,292 ppm With an exception of sample nuber two, all samples conforms to mercury volume limits for carnivorous fish 0,5 mg/kg in fish muscle (EU directive 221/2002). According to WHO limits of mercury in food(1,6 micrograms per 1 kg of live weight a week) 70 kg person can take 1,3 kg of bullhead meat a month. It means much more than anybody is able to do. | ||||
