Etymology: Paratilapia: Greek, para = side, near + Bechuana, African native thiape = fish (Ref. 45335).   More on author: Boulenger.

Issue
The genus Paratilapia is endemic to Madagascar, but the correct generic placement of this species is unknown (tentatively in HaplochromisHilgendorf, 1888 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870), that we reserv only for Lake Victoria catchment). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
