Dorsal soft rays (total): 4; Anal soft rays: 56 - 65; Vertebrae: 55 - 56. Can be differentiated from its congeners in having an elliptical (versus circular) eye, and a combination of the following characters: head length 17.2-19.9% SL, 56-65 anal-fin rays, 55-56 vertebrae and one pair of mandibular barbels.
