Head relatively large, about 2 times in preanal distance; jaws inferior; snout inflated; maxillary strongly sheathed; branchiostegal rays 8; opercular spine short and sharp; pectoral fin reaches to anus or beyond; caudal fin rays 8; precaudal vertebrae 12-14 (Ref. 34024).
