Etymology: Salvelinus: Old name for char; it is the same root of german "saibling" = little salmon (Ref. 45335).

Issue
Issue on validity of subspecies: subspecies considered as valid in FB, synonymized with the species Salvelinus alpinus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697), although mentioned as a valid subspecies by authors. Please send references, or more studies are needed.
