Etymology: Cycleptus: Greek, kyklos = round + Greek, leptes = thin (Ref. 45335); elongatus: Cycleptus=round and slender, (meant to mean small round mouth by the author, C.S. Rafinesque); elongatus=elongate (referring to general body shape) (Ref. 79012).
