Freshwater; demersal; pH range: 7.5 - 8.5; dH range: 12 - 30; depth range 2 - 12 m (Ref. 9605). Tropical; 24°C - 26°C (Ref. 1672), preferred ?; 12°S - 15°S
Africa: Endemic to the southern half of Likoma Island (from Madimba Bay to Ulisa, Ref. 6256).

Common along the rock-sand interface. Occasionally occurs in purely rocky habitats close to sand. Males blue and yellow, females brown. Males exhibit territoriality. Females, juveniles and non-territorial adult males occur singly or in groups of up to 30 fish. Schools with Cynotilapia afra and P. zebra. Feeds on plankton (Ref. 6256).
