Etymology: Nyassachromis: From lake Nyassa + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335).

Freshwater; demersal. Tropical, preferred ?; 9°S - 12°S
Africa: Endemic to the northern part of Lake Malawi as far south as Nkhata Bay.

Found in the intermediate sand-rock habitat but also occurs over open sandy areas. Feeds on plankton (Ref. 5595).
