Dorsal spines (total): 2 - 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-18; Anal spines: 1-2; Anal soft rays: 13 - 14. Dark brown to grey-black in color (Ref. 2261).

Common in and outside the coelacanth caves during the day, and at night it usually ascends to the coral reef at depths of 3-20 m (Ref. 58472).
