Body dusky grey with irregular vertical bars, blotches and small spots, often almost plain grey; first dorsal fin grey, black posteriorly, bright yellow submarginal band present (Ref. 43716). Longitudinal scales 36-46; TRB 13-18; predorsal scales 12-21, small, reaching forward of preopercular margin but not reaching behind eyes; ctenoid scales on side of body separated into patch behind pectoral fin and area from below second dorsal fin origin back to caudal base (Ref. 43716).
