Comments: Type locality of the holotype of Barbus apoensis: 'permanent stream near Khamis Mushyat, 18°17'N, 42°34'E' (Ref. 113720). Known from Al Hijaz mountain range in wadis draining inland or towards the Red Sea (Ref. 94477), including Wadi Dawasir drainage system (Ref. 13617).

Short description

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 9. Diagnosis: This species can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characteristics: one pair of barbels; usually 10 branched rays in the dorsal fin; 27-32 sales in the lateral line; usually 12 scales around the least circumference of the caudal peduncle; and last unbranched ray of dorsal fin shorter than head (Ref. 94477).
