Etymology: Muraenolepis: Latin, muraena = morey eel + Greek, lepis = scale (Ref. 45335); kuderskii: Named for of the Russian ichthyologist Professor Leonid Aleksandrovich Kuderskii, organizer of the Russian fishery science.

soft rays: 105 - 113. Body elongated, small relative head size, one ray of D1 elongated, pelvic rays elongated, anal and dorsal continuous with caudal fin. Tubular scale along the upper and anal lateral lines. Numerous sensory pores on head. The species belongs to "few-rayed" species group with less than 150 dorsal fin rays and less than 114 anal fin rays. It differs from the species of this group by a short chin barbel, small relative eye size, and short prebranchial distance, short preanal distance and long post-anal distance.
Known from 6 specimens. But specimens might have been misidentified especially with Muraenolepis microps (Ref. 74968).
