Etymology: Sundasalanx: Composed from Sunda, Asiatic island + latinization of Philippines, salamga, French salangana = the name of a kind of swallow (Ref. 45335); mesops: Combination of mes, Greek for middle, and ops, Greek for eye, referring to the size of the eye in relation to the other Sundasalanx species.
