Dorsal spines (total): 13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 11. Body blue; dorsal fin blue, yellow distally; caudal peduncle, caudal and anal fins yellow; pelvic fins yellow at edges.

Adults inhabit offshore reefs on relatively level bottoms, often covered with coralline algae rhodoliths (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
