Scales very small, not overlapping and deeply embedded in skin.
Inhabits still waters of lakes and lake shores, with abundant aquatic vegetation. Population has declined due to the introduction of alien species (Pseudorasbora parva, Rhodeus amarus). Maximum size reaches up to about 5.5 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
