Definition of Term

plankton
(english) Passively floating or only weakly swimming small aquatic organisms in a body of water, which drift in the ocean along with the water currents; planktonic organisms range in size from tiny plants and animals to rather large jellyfish and salps, and include the larval stages of many fishes. Opposite of nekton. (See also: zooplankton, phytoplankton, nekton)
