 Family:  Triacanthodidae (Spikefishes)
 Max. size:  12 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 50 - 607 m
 Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: east coast of Africa to Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 6-6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 12-14. Reddish, darker above; some specimens with a blue stripe from eye through gill opening and pectoral base to halfway back on body (Ref. 6660).
 Biology:  Feeds on scales of fishes.
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
