 Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin and coastal drainages of the Guianas.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Occurs in rivers and small creeks with little current. An omnivore which feeds on fruits, seeds and insects which float on the surface of the water. Reproduction takes place during the rainy season (Ref. 12225).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
