 Family:  Soleidae (Soles)
 Max. size:  50 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 1 - 40 m
 Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Mozambique Channel to Natal, South Africa. Also known from Japan (Ref. 3200) and the Philippines (Ref. 9494).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 70-76; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 54-63; Vertebrae: 46-46. Dark brown, sometimes with darker specks; dorsal and anal fins with pale edges; right pectoral fin blackish (Ref. 3200).
 Biology:  Occurs in shallow coastal waters. Feeds mainly on bottom-living invertebrates. Marketed fresh.
