 Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Scorpaeninae
 Max. size:  35 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 1 - 100 m
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Mauritania to Pointe Noire, Congo and including the Azores, and Cape Verde. Records from Annobon are questionable.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Found in shallow rocky areas (Ref. 4570).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  reports of ciguatera poisoning
