 Family:  Holocentridae (Squirrelfishes, soldierfishes), subfamily: Myripristinae
 Max. size:  32 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic; depth range 146 - 400 m
 Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Mozambique (Ref. 5213), Reunion and Mauritius (Ref. 33390). Pacific Ocean: Ryukyu Islands, Hawaiian Islands, Tahiti, Moorea (Ref. 10628). Probably more widely distributed.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 4-4; Anal soft rays: 11-12. Body red with faint white lines following scale rows (Ref. 4201).
 Biology:  Minimum depth from Ref. 4201.
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
