 Family:  Ogcocephalidae (Batfishes)
 Max. size:  13.38 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 15 - 172 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: northwestern South America to the mouth of the Amazon.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 5-5; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 4-4. Pectoral fin rays 13 or more (Ref. 13608). Mouth wide. Additional lateral-line scale in premaxillary series. Shorter disk margin length when compared to nasutus and vespertilio. Pupil oval-shaped compared to other species' approximately kidney- or dumbbell-shaped one (Ref. 40824).
