 Family:  Atherinopsidae (Neotropical silversides), subfamily: Menidiinae
 Max. size:  12.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  pelagic-neritic; depth range 3 - 15 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: New York and northern Gulf of Mexico to Florida in USA and northern Mexico.
 Diagnosis:  Anal soft rays: 15-21
 Biology:  Occurs along shore and in bays and inlets.
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
