 Family:  Paralepididae (Barracudinas)
 Max. size:  42 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathypelagic; depth range - 260 m
 Distribution:  South Atlantic: discontinuous from continental slope off South America to South Africa. Indo-West Pacific: off Australia (Ref. 7300) and New Zealand (Ref. 5755). Southeast Pacific: Chile (Ref. 9068).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 29-32. Black in color (Ref. 4056).
 Biology:  Mesopelagic species (Ref. 75154).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
