 Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
 Max. size:  45 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  demersal; depth range 0 - 60 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Venezuela to northern Argentina.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 29-29; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-9
 Biology:  Found over mud or sandy mud bottoms in coastal waters to about 60 m depth. Juveniles abundant in estuaries and tidal mud flats. Feeds on shrimps and fishes (Ref. 9626). Important food fish.
