 Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails), subfamily: Macrourinae
 Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic; depth range 585 - 1300 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic, Western Indian Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean.
 Diagnosis:  No enlarged scutes at snout tip; suborbital ridge not developed; underside of snout narrowly naked along upper lip; 1-2 scales on branchiostegal membrane; ventral light organ very large (Ref. 13608).
 Biology:  A benthic species found on the continental slope (Ref. 75154).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
