Western Indian Ocean: apparently restricted to waters off the southern Arabian Peninsula and in the Gulf of Oman, for no specimens were found in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea and off the East African Coast. |
Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 29-31; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8; Vertebrae: 24-24. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: upper pectoral fin base with a black axillary spot; D 29-32; A 8; scales above lateral line 6, below 11; eye diameter 22.9-28.9% HL; interorbital width 32.0-38.0% HL; gill rakers 5-6 + 15-18 = 21-24; no mental barbel, last well-developed pleural rib on 7th vertebra; 11 swim bladder appendages; vertebrae 10 + 14 = 24 (Ref. 90119). |
