 Family:  Malacanthidae (Tilefishes), subfamily: Malacanthinae
 Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 18 - 80 m
 Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Indonesia, Palau, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Recently reported from Tonga (Ref. 53797).
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-16; Anal spines: 1-2; Anal soft rays: 14-15; Vertebrae: 24-24. Preopercular serrae 27-44 (Ref. 9933). Description: Characterized by mainly white body color; vivid, gradually arching red stripe, narrows on posterior body, widens into large triangular marking on caudal fin; greatest depth of body 5.0-5.1 in SL (Ref. 90102).
 Biology:  Usually lives in very deep water adjacent to reef drop-offs (Ref. 48635); also on sandy and rubble areas (Ref. 9710). Builds large rubble mounts (Ref. 48635). Feeds on zooplankton. Solitary or in small groups (Ref 90102).
