 Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
 Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  benthopelagic; pH range: 7 - 8; dH range: 10 - 20
 Distribution:  Eurasia: Damascus and Jordan river basins, and Qishon River. All records from outside this area are misidentifications.
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Occurs in lakes, ponds and slow-moving streams, among stones and vegetation. Also found in ponds with warm, muddy, polluted water (Ref. 11028). Feeds on plants, aufwuchs or detritus, reproduces during winter (Ref. 13609).
 IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
