 Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Melanostomiinae
 Max. size:  20.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  pelagic-oceanic
 Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: one record from 13°S 9°W. Western Atlantic: off Bermuda and Brazil. Also known from the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 24-24; Anal soft rays: 45-45. Branches arising from the stem of the barbel. Stem beyond the branches supporting an elongated swelling and large terminal bulb.
 Biology:
