 Family:  Scaridae (Parrotfishes), subfamily: Scarinae
 Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  reef-associated; depth range 1 - 15 m, non-migratory
 Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: known only from Kenya to South Africa. Presence in Somalia to be confirmed (Ref. 30573).
 Diagnosis:   
 Biology:  Found in silty protected reefs, over sand and rubble (Ref. 9710). Feeds on benthic algae. Also caught with nets and other artisanal gear. Mainly sold fresh.
