Description: toothplates on vomer and pterygoids of equal width; body width at pectoral-fin insertions 6.8-6.9 times in standard length; maxillary barbel 3.2-4.0 times in standard length (Ref. 75075). |
Present on the bottom of deep water to 150 m but most common in sub-littoral areas; very common in deep water (Ref. 4967). Specialized toward a life on the sandy bottoms (Ref. 6770). Upstream spawning migrations have been reported (Ref. 78218, 93972). Omnivore (Ref. 78218). Feeds on small fishes (usually Lamprologus spp.), ostracods, and larvae of dragonflies (Ref. 6868, 36901). |
