 Family:  Nemichthyidae (Snipe eels)
 Max. size:  77 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathypelagic; depth range - 2000 m
 Distribution:  Southern region of all oceans except the Eastern Pacific.
 Diagnosis:  Dark brown to black in color (Ref. 3248). Dorsal rays 325-436, anal rays 280-368 (Ref. 3248).
 Biology:  Apparently entering the upper water column (Ref. 47377).
 IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated  (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
