 Family:  Caproidae (Boarfishes)
 Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
 Environment:  bathydemersal; depth range 115 - 585 m
 Distribution:  Western Atlantic: New Jersey, USA and northeastern Gulf of Mexico to Brazil.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 27-28; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 24-27. Body pink dorsally, silver ventrally; soft dorsal and anal fin bases with scaly sheath; radiating ridges on side of head (Ref. 13608).
 Biology:  Edible, but not regularly marketed (Ref. 5217).
 IUCN Red List Status:   (Ref. 96402)
 Threat to humans:  harmless
