Remarks Nocturnal and benthic, preferring stagnant waters of swamps and lakes (Ref. 10294, 11243). Common length rarely goes beyond 33 cm SL (245 g at 8 years). Juveniles are carnivores surviving on invertebrates, insect larvae, insects and eggs and larvae of other fishes. The main food of adults consist of crustaceans, small fish and frogs (Ref. 11243).
