Remarks 'Merlu' from Old French 'merle' from Low Latin 'merulus' and Classical Latin 'merula', also from Provençal 'merlus' which is a cross of Old French 'merle' and 'lus' (from Latin 'lucius', i.e., pike) (p. 459 in Ref, 9404); 'du Pacifique sud', i.e., of the Southern Pacific Ocean. Name not listed in ASFIS version 2006 (Ref. 56807). Also Ref. 7439, 82178, 87040, 90062, 93840, 95632.
