Remarks 'Merlan' from Old French 'merle' from Low Latin 'merulus' and Classical Latin 'merula', also from Provençal 'merlus' which is a cross of Old French 'merle' and 'lus' (from Latin 'lucius', i.e., pike) (p. 459 in Ref, 9404). Name not listed in ASFIS version 2006 (Ref. 56807). Also Ref. 56807, 82178, 87040, 90062, 93840, 95632.
