| Remarks | The word is nowhere on the coast (of Montenegro and Croatia) vernacular except maybe in Boka Bay [Vinja 1986, I- ref. 52807]. ETYM: Connected to, and probably directly borrowed from Russian àêóëà [akula]. The explanation of -j- with contamination with German Hai(fish) is hypothetical. The Russian word is of Germanic origin, the same one as German Hai. |
