Remarks 'Anchois' from Spanish 'anchoa', borrowed from Greek 'aphué', through Low Latin 'apiuva', of Mediterranean origin (Ref.9404); 'à queue noire', i.e., black tailed; 'queue' from Latin slang 'coda' from Classical Latin 'cauda', i.e., tail (p. 622 in Ref. 9404); 'noire' from Latin 'niger', black, dark (p. 495 in Ref. 9404).
