Remarks 'Brochet' from Latin slang 'brocca', feminine substantive of 'brochus' = projecting, pointed, 'broche', 'brochet' for its pointed snout (Ref. 9404, see also 'gade' and 'morue'); 'du nord', i.e., of the north, alluding to the high latitude distribution.
